Essi started her fashion journey at the age of 12 by manufacturing a bridal dress from a set of ready-made patterns during a primary school textiles class. Back then, her main motivation for pursuing such an ambitious project was to learn new skills through the act of making and to challenge herself by doing something way outside of her comfort zone. The same passion and ambition to push her work forwards and to think outside the box are still driving her design work and practice-led research today. ESSI PEUHKURI offers products with directional, contemporary style, experimental and innovative approach to materials and form as well as a fresh outlook on how we experience and wear accessories and clothing. As a designer, Essi comes from a multidisciplinary background with a craftsmanship centered Clothing Artisan degree, higher education studies in Clothing Design as well as a degree in BA Fashion Accessory Design. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Disruptive Design at Plymouth College of Art with the aim of developing her practice towards a more ethical approach to fashion/accessory design and production while staying true to her values of product innovation and quality craftsmanship.
